Trying new ideas and projects are important. It is always important to step outside of your comfort zone even just with everyday things. This is what allows us to grow as a person. Learning new things about yourself and the world around you is growth. Some projects I have tried in the past though just haven’t worked out in general. Some I have even really disliked. One of these projects I have tried that I really disliked was Acrylic Pouring.
I want to say that even though I dislike Acrylic Pouring and I haven’t had a good overall experience with the style, it doesn’t mean that the style may not be for someone else. One key thing anyone should learn when trying something new for the first time is that even though something isn’t for you specifically, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t for someone else. Acrylic Pouring is an abstract art form that using a pouring medium that is mixed with acrylic paint and multiple colors are then poured onto a painting surface to create abstract art based on the way the paint is poured, the colors that are chosen, and the way the painting surface is tilted or moved. I personally don’t have a good history with color in general. I have a difficult time with picking colors that would go well together. Despite this I decided to try anyways.
Acrylic pouring requires a lot of materials and a lot of setup. After you are done with the project also, there is a super long wait time for the painting to dry completely and I am not a very patient man. When working on this project, I made a major mess. I didn’t have anything to put the canvas in and catch the runoff paint the first time I did this project so I ended up with paint everywhere. Then during the curing time of my monstrosities of paintings, I allowed them to dry but not fully cure before I ended up stacking a few of them which in turn caused them to adhere together and ruin almost every one of these paintings that I made. It was a costly and time consuming endeavor but I refused to let the whole experience go to waste.
I set up an art day for my nieces and nephews to created some of their own art through this art form because I seen it as a way for them to be able to express themselves and have fun doing so. I already spent the money on all the supplies anyways and I enjoy sharing moments like these with them. They all were so much better than me at creating Acrylic Pour paintings! My niece even won an art competition at her school with the painting that she made!
