It’s been a pretty big trend the past few years for street artists to create quick, usually sci-fi or space related, paintings with spray paint. This is usually done as a performance art on the street but not always. The first time I seen someone creating paintings from spray paint in this way I was pretty blown away. This gave me the incentive to give it a shot myself because it looked so cool the way they were creating the painting in a matter of minutes and then they would quick dry the final result using fire and the spray paint that they used to paint the piece in the first place.
Although I wouldn’t call it a failure by any means, especially given it was my first and only real shot at this art form, but it certainly wasn’t super successful either. There was definitely hiccups that needed to be worked out. I should have done more research into the spray paint that I used. I got several cans of the most expensive brand but it was a low pressure type of paint which is not good for this type of painting so I couldn’t keep the spray paint from splattering everywhere. Then I struggled heavily with getting the white paint to flick onto the canvas to create the stars without getting a line of speckles from the way I was flicking it. Nonetheless, despite it not being super great, it was fun and I could see myself trying this again in the future and improving on the techniques.
One of the paintings I made, I did seal with epoxy and I do like that one much better so I may look into doing more pieces like that in the future.
