One of the things I do my best to try and do is come up with creative and unique project ideas. Not all of my ideas are so unique that they have never been done before but I do try and complete projects that I don’t see very often. One of these projects I would consider to be unique is the 3D shadow box illustration. I created a multi-layered illustration of several creatures and put the illustration into a deep shadowbox that was lined with LEDs that would make shadows more prominent and create a 3d effect for the illustration.
Another creative project I have created was my toilet seat monsters. I painted different creatures on a couple different toilet seats. The first one I painted, when you opened the lid, the creatures mouth was the opening on the toilet seat. This painting was extremely popular so I did create another one in which the round open seat was the creatures two outreached arms as though he was giving you a hug. These creative projects were very fun to make.
Another project I really had fun with was painting these little 2.5×2.5 inch canvas magnets. I made over 40 of these magnets with different characters from different cartoons. I normally try to create unique creatures and cartoon characters but in this instance I opted to use already popular characters because I had a couple people already request certain characters so I just decided to give it a shot with pre-existing characters. The project was fun to make regardless. Some of the characters I used were Pokemon characters, Spongebob characters, Adventure Time characters, and The Amazing World of Gumball characters.
I have also painted a few objects that aren’t exactly unique but they were objects that I didn’t forsee myself painting. One of which being a car. A friend of mine, requested that I paint his old company logo on a race car that he was building. It turned out really great. I used posca acrylic paint markers for the illustration and then I sealed the paint afterwards and it turned out great. I also have painted a couple of keepsake boxes as well and some coasters and even a drawing easel.
It’s always fun to try new things and to challenge yourself with new ideas that may not work out in foreseeable ways. This is the best way to grow, not only as an artist, but as a person as well.
